Resumen:
This lecture reviews the main contributions of the literature on transnational political practices that, generally, discusses South-North migration routes. We argues that often such analyses are riddled by strongly ethnocentric positions. This point is argued, in the context of transnational political practices in the Southern Cone, using the empirical case study which summarizes the history of the Uruguayan Frente Amplio in Argentina and the historical development of what is called "voto Buquebus". This term refers to the movement of people, capital and people from Argentina to Uruguay to participate in the electoral processes in the latter country. The lecture suggests that this voto presents a series of analytical challenges because it subverts the liberal practice and definition of ?political citizenship?, an issue that is crucial for understanding a considerable part of the tensions that the case presents to analysts of transnational political practices associated with South-North migration.
