Resumen:
Lago Argentino, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Argentina, hosts in its arms various calving glaciers originating from the South Patagonian Icefield, among them the famous Perito Moreno glacier. Information on the Holocene glacier history of this region is spatially and temporally fragmented. However, because of the occurrence of well preserved glaciogenic landforms and stratigraphic exposures, the Lago Argentino basin is a key location to refine Holocene glacial history, and thus paleoclimate of this region. No specific studies have been done within the branches of the Lago Argentino to date. We realized the first bathymetric map for the Brazo Rico and Brazo Sur, the two southern inland arms of Lago Argentino, and acquired a series of high-resolution seismic profiles showing the depositional architecture and facies of the moraine bodies associated with the glaciers activity during Holocene recession/stillstand phases.
