Resumen:
The morphology of the continental margin off Tierradel Fuego is highly influenced by the presence of middle-slope contourite terraces. This area is dominated by the relatively strong flow associated to the northernAntarctic Circumpolar Current, with the North Scotia Ridge acting as animportant morphological barrier. The flow includes portions of formed AntarcticIntermediate Water and Subantarctic Mode Water that later flows to the northreaching the Northern Hemisphere. The depth of these water mass boundaries coincideswith the regional occurrence of those terraces. Similar terraces have also beenidentified along the Argentine and Uruguayan margins, representing a majormorphologic element in the South Atlantic Ocean with important oceanographicand paleoceanographic implications.
