Resumen:
The Geology of Lago Fagnano area in Tierra del Fuego (South America). Lago Fagano represents the southernmost lake of the Earth. It is elongated E-W for a length of 105 km, with an average wideness of 8 km, and a maximum depth of 210 m. It is located in the external part of the Andean cordillera where Meso-Cenozoic volcanic metasediments of the marginal basin of Rocas Verdes and terrigenous sediments of the Magallanes foredeep basin, outcrop. The lake is a pullapart basin developed during the Cenozoic time along the principal deformation zone of the Magallanes-Fagnano left lateral continental transform fault. In the lake area sedimentary lacustrine and glacial facies related to the Last Glacial event are present.
