Resumen:
Power transformers are one of the most importantcomponents in electrical systems. Failures in this type ofmachines can cause serious consequences. Traditionally, toensure proper functioning and to detect possible faults at theincipient state, off-line diagnostic tools have been used. In the lastyears, and in accordance with strategies applied in otherelectrical machines, alternative techniques for faults detection inpower transformers have begun to be studied. The aim of thisnew trend is to move towards on-line monitoring. In this work, a proposal for inter-turn short circuits detectionin transformer windings is presented. The proposal is based onthe analysis of the no-load current harmonic content and it iscarried out on an experimental prototype. The results allowaffirming that the proposed method is effective even for slightfaults.
