Resumen:
Power transformers are one of the most important components in electrical systems. Failures in this type of equipment can cause serious consequences. Traditionally, to ensure proper functioning and to detect possible faultsatthe incipient state, off-line diagnostic tools have been used. In the last years, and in accordance with strategies applied in other electrical machines, alternative techniques for faultsdetection in power transformers have begun to be studied. The aim of this new trend is to move towards on-line monitoring. In this work, a proposal for inter-turn short circuits detection in transformer windings is presented. The proposal is based on the analysis of the no-load current harmonic content and it is carried out on an experimental prototype. The results allow affirming that the proposed method is effective even for slight faults.
