Resumen:
In response to the challenge of linking scientific technological knowledge to the global interests of a sustainable planet, a project was created at the Engineering Faculty of UNICEN whose objective was to design and construct an experimental prototype of a hybrid mobile. The Latin American solar carcompetition in the Atacama desert in Chile in 2011 and 2012 allowed led to the initiative. The activities that enabled the design and built of the vehicles required the participation and commitment of teachers, administrative staff and students of Electromechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering motivated bythe idea of supplanting directly internal combustion motors. The development of the project, allows the interdisciplinary work and the diffusion of the challenges that these innovative technologies require, becoming a motivator in the teaching of engineering career. The participation in the competition made it possible to design and builds a hybrid automobile with human and electric traction on photovoltaic solar base. This design constitutes platforms for future technological developments that mark new trends in transport that use renewable energy sources. This paper describes the interdisciplinary activities carried out to participate in the competition. The intervention of the Structural Engineering in the design of the resistant structure of the chassis and the solar panel of the aforementioned vehicle is detailed, considering those parameters that represent a remarkable influence on its speed and efficiency. A conception of economic energy determined that emphasis should be placed on aerodynamic drag and vehicle weight.
