Resumen:
The aim of the present study is to assess the results obtained using the two-ADCPs technique in terms of the characterisation and transport of SPM in a challenging stratified estuary where flocculation processes occur. The method based on the simultaneous backscatter records of 1200 and 600 kHz ADCPs employed by Guerrero et al. (2013) in rivers, where the sediment mainly consists of sand, was used here to determine the concentration and size of flocs in brackish and salt water. It was implemented by using the provided relationships between the strength of the backscattered acoustic signal of each ADCP and the SPM concentration obtained using a LISST-25X diffractometer (Sequoia Sci. Inc.) in selected cross-sections of the microtidal coastal plain primary Quequén Grande River estuary located in south-eastern Buenos Aires Province in Argentina.
