Resumen:
The possible applicability of waste ceramic powder as partial portland cement replacement in concrete production is studied in this paper, due to rapid increase of concrete as building material. The cement industry alone is estimated to be responsible for about 7% of all CO2 generated, and since the cost of cement represents more than 45% of the, concrete cost. Several by-products have already found their utilization in concrete production as portland cement replacement. In this paper were analyzed two wastes ceramic and two portland cements. The replacements in weight were of 8, 16, 24, 32, and 40%. For the raw materials, chemical and mineralogical compositions were done using XRF and XRD analysis, and the particle size distributions were accessed on laser diffraction principle. For the tested pastes, basic physical and mechanical properties were accessed. The hydration process of particular studied mixtures was monitored by calorimetric and XRD analysis. The results showed that both ceramic wastes have pozzolanic activity with both portland cements.
