Resumen:
The fluoroperovskite-like phosphor has been interesting material for dosimetry purposes (Kitis et al., 2002). Has relatively high melting point (1070 °C), low hygroscopicity, an intermediate value of the effective atomic number of LiF+MgF2 (Zeff~9.86) which is near to tissue equivalent. Europium-doped lithium magnesium fluoride (LiF+MgF2) powder has been prepared. The EuF3 impurity was added at concentration of 0.4 mol% to the LiF and MgF2 salts in the stoichiometric radio (1:1). The mixed salts were melted by using the solid state reaction at 1080 °C and sintered at different period of time (0.5-5 h) to obtain good sensitivity of the phosphors. The synthesis was carried out in a quartz oven with constant nitrogen gas flux. Two phases in the powder samples were observed by X-ray diffraction, and the surface was analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy. The sintered powder samples were exposed to 0.5 - 180 Gy gamma doses in a Gammacell-200 irradiator. The dose-response of the samples was linear between 0.5 and 120 Gy dose range. The glow curves shown a main glow peak at 325-328 °C and others three minors satellite peaks located at 156, 205, 283 °C at the low side temperature were observed. The main glow peak was isolated by thermal bleaching at 270 °C, this peak can be use for dosimetric purposes. The fading of the total glow curves was about 11.4% at the end of thirty days. The dosimetric properties of the Eu-doped lithium magnesium fluoride phosphor suggest that this material could be proposed to use in gamma radiation dosimetry.
