Resumen:
This work shows the importance of the use of do-it-yourself techniques developed in a laboratory within the framework of a degree subject for the characterization of biopolymers. Thermoplastic starch was manufactured from the destructuring of natural starch, using a chemical method with different amounts of glycerin as plasticizer. Subsequently, some physical properties, like tensile mechanical and light absorption properties were characterized using devices specially prepared for this practice by means of do-it-yourself techniques. The addition of different amounts of glycerin significantly modifies the properties of the material. A decrease in the stress that the material supports at break as well as the strain at break is observed as the glycerin content increases. The absorption of optical radiation also decreases. The thermograms obtained indicate a strong dissolution of the original crystals and recrystallization for the higher glycerin contents.
