Blended Cements with Limestone Filler and Kaolinitic Calcined Clay: Filler and Pozzolanic Effects

In this paper, binary and ternary blendedcements (bc) based on calcined clay (CC, 0 to 30%) obtained from low gradekaolinitic clay and limestone filler (LF, 0 to 10%) was developed and theinteraction of filler and pozzolanic effects on the compressive strength, thehydration phase and the pore size distribution were studied. Results show that early compressive strength decreasesfor high levels of replacement (10LF30CC) due to dilution effect that cannot becompensated by the filler andpozzolanic effects. Based on CH content, the addition of limestone filler in ternary blendedcements is favorable to the development of pozzolanic reaction of calcined clay at early age. This study shown thatdilution, filler and pozzolanic effects are relevant at 2 days; filler andpozzolanic effects are important at 7 days; and, the pozzolanic effect is themost important at later age.
