Resumen:
The screened hydrogenic model (SH M) is one of the atomic model s comm only used in plasm a physics, especi ally in the high ene rgy density range. However, for low-ion ization deg rees, the radial hydrogenic wavefunctions of t he valence electrons are very dif ferent from those arisi ng from Hartree Fock (HF) calc ulations. In this work we used the tim e-honored concepts of screening and quantu m defe cts to calc ulate the atomic structu re and spec tra of not very highly ion ized atoms. We showed that, although for neutral and few ion ized atoms t he screened hydrogenic radial wave func tions are far from the HF values, the comb ined use of the screening an d the quantu m defe ct parameters produces better calculations of the dipolar mome nts that using only the SHM.
