Resumen:
In this paper we present a framework aimed to numerically simulate the behavior of wind turbines. The framework is designed in such a way that sub-models that represent different components can be incorporated, disregarded or replaced depending on the desired description level according to the problem being studied. The objective is to have different ways of representing wind turbines according to the problem to be analyzed with the common characteristic of being low complexity models that allow time evolving simulations with low computational effort. Typical envisioned application problems are: eg turbine interaction inside wind farm, interaction between wind farm and electrical network, interactions between wind farm and environment, wind farm optimization, etcIn order to obtain a low complexity multi-system model capable of dealing with the complex features of new-generation blades and turbines without the large computational cost of coupled full 3D solid and fluid dynamic codes, in this implementation we combine a 1D emph{generalized Timoshenko} code for the simulation of flexible emph{beam-like} components like blades and tower, and an improved version of the algebraic emph{blade element momentum (BEM)} model for the flow problem.  The proposed framework allows the implementation of the above-mentioned fluid and structure models in a way that permits the addition of sub-models representing other turbine components: eg transmission system, generator, control system, nacelle, etc These additional sub-models need to be expressed in a compatible way to be integrated into the framework.
