Resumen:
Pollen and microfósil records from the lower part of a 1,12 m long sediment core from Laguna Hinojales (37º 34`S; 57º 27`W) dated 4240 ± 60 yrs. BP were studied. Micropaleontological data showed a brackish environment and suggested that the sea reached the present area of the Laguna Hinojales before 4500 yrs. BP. By the first time in the Mar Chiquita area this Holocene marine transgression is recorded landward (westward) from the upper Pleistocene barrier ridge.
