Resumen:
During the First World War, the belligerent states mobilized their societies for total war. The call to the home front also included their citizens residing overseas, showing the global and transnational character of the conflict. This lecture aims to explore the contributions of the British community in Argentina to its homeland?s war effort, and to analyse the impact of the war on the definition of its identity. Drawing on research in British diplomatic archives and a book of remembrance published after the war, it will argue that British community in Argentina showed a strong commitment to the war cause, surpassing the contributions of larger immigrant communities in that country.
