Resumen:
This paper analyzes the impact of the United States' republican experience on the organization of the political institutions of South-America. It focuses on the discussion and use in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru of the main American constitutional and political treatises, as a source of the institutional solutions tested between 1860 and 1910. Between those decades, the treatises were translated by statesmen and intellectuals such as Alejandro Carrasco Albano (Chile), Florentino González y Miguel Antonio Caro (Colombia) and Nicolás Calvo (Argentina) in order to disseminate United States constitutional law. The Spanish editions circulated around South America and were used to teach law at schools and universities, and were also distributed among judges, legislators, civil servants, and public libraries.
