Resumen:
The year1917 represented a fundamental milestone in the development of Argentinenationalism. The First World War had an intense impact on that country in thisjuncture due to the confluence of three events: In the first place, theresumption of submarine warfare by the German Empire, with the consequentsinking of several Argentine merchant ships; In second place, the United Statesentry into the war, with the launch of a Pan-Americanist campaign in LatinAmerica; and finally, the combination of those two factors, which led to theso-called ?Luxburg affair?. As a result, the Argentine government´s foreignpolicy was put into question, and civil society split into two tendencies:neutralists versus rupturists. The paper aims to analyze the repercussions of this particular moment of the Great War on the reflections about Argentine national identity.
