Resumen:
In the first place, this article aims to analyze the different modalitiesof social mobilization of Buenos Aires society during the First World War andtheir transformation throughout the conflict. It will explore the differentexpressions of social responses to the war, from economic cooperation with thebelligerent nations and the enlistment of hundreds of volunteer soldiers intotheir armies, until public cultural and political debates around the conflictand their implications for Argentina?s position in the international arena andfor its definition of national identity. Finally, it will attempt tooffer some hypotheses about the reasons that inspired that extended social activism.
