Resumen:
The First World War had a deep impact on how Latin American intellectuals viewed the subcontinent's role in the world. The Great War and its repercussions created polarizations; reinforced and shaped a renewed nationalism and a growing anti-imperialism in Latin America. There was ever more resistance against what was perceived as the meddling of outsiders in the region's affairs, be it in the economic, political or cultural domain. While political sovereignty and cultural distinctness had increasingly been affirmed in the years before 1914, the war reinforced pre-existing tendencies in various ways.
