The article returns on a well-known Argentinian nativist poem, Fausto, by Estanislao del Campo. The new lecture is the starting point to explore the opera representations in nineteenth Century urban Argentina and especially in Buenos Aires and its changes over time. The changes can be thought in relation to the place of the opera in the theater offer, especially the zarzuela and nativist circus criollo, on one hand, and on the other with the different types of audiences and their behaviors. The resulting picture shows two differentiated temporal dynamics, one related with the mutations of the same operatic genre, in Argentina and elsewhere, and another with the social changes of the Argentine urban environments.
