In the rat, the proestrus surge of PRL coincides with the highest apoptosis and the lowest proliferation rates [1]. As PRL acts as a proapoptotic and antiproliferative factor in the male AP [2], we hypothesized that PRL is involved in the control of AP cell turnover along the estrus cycle.
