Resumen:
Introduction and Objectives:Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder among young women. Telomere shortening is involved in the replicative capacity of a cell, considered as a marker of cellular aging. We aimed to determine the absolute Telomere Length (aTL) in women with PCOS and study their association with Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) and the presence of obesity and Hyperandrogenism (HA), in comparison with healthy controls. Methods:We studied 130 women with POCS and 86 age-matched healthy control women. Biochemical, clinical, anthropometric hormonal parameters have been measured. The aTL was performed on genomic DNA from peripheral blood leukocytes by Real Time PCR absolute quantitative method. Statistical analysis was carried out by one-way ANOVA and linear regression. Results: The whole sample (PCOS and Controls) showed an inverse relationship between aTL and age (p=0.004).
