Resumen:
Growing interest in natural antioxidants has developed due to a need for more effective, less toxic and cost effective antioxidants, and medicinal plants appear to have these desiredadvantages. Ginkgo biloba extract has been claimed effective in a variety of disorders associated with neurodegeneration like Parkinson, dementia, Alzheimer and glaucoma. The aims of this work were to evaluate the antioxidant capacity and the effect on lipid-peroxidation of aqueous extracts from Ginkgo biloba. Infusion and decoction of 5 % w/v were prepared and brain homogenates were used to determine the effect on lipid peroxidation. Antioxidantactivity was assessed by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH), and 2,20-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline)-6-sulfonic acid radical (ABTS) scavenging activity. Decoction displayed significant higher values than infusion in terms of DPPH (p
