Resumen:
The exposure to airborne particulate matter shows adverse health effects in urban population. The aim of the present study was to evaluate oxidative stress markers in human conjunctival epithelial cells (IOBA-NHC) after the incubation with diesel exhaust particles (DEP) for 1 hour. The incubation was performed with DEP at concentrations of 50 and 100 μg/mL for 1 hour and the following parameters were evaluated: glutathione S-transferase (GST), glutathione reductase (GR), thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) and glucose 6P-deshidrogenase (G6PDH) activity; reduced glutathione (GSH); lipid and protein oxidation. One-way ANOVA test and Dunnett?s test as post hoc test were used for statistical analysis. The cells exposed to 50 and 100 μg/mL of DEP showed a significant increase in the activity of GST (74% and 99%, respectively, p
