Resumen:
Environmental pollution is a global problem that causes adverse effects on human health. The eyes are vulnerable to the effects of air pollutants, as they are constantly exposed to the environment. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the redox status in human conjunctival epithelial cells after the incubation with diesel exhaust particles (DEP) in different concentration (10, 50 and 100 μg/mL) for 24 hs. The following parameters were evaluated: reactive oxygen and nitrogen species production; protein oxidation, antioxidant enzymes activities (superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione s-transferase (GST)) and non-enzymatic antioxidant levels.
