Abstract?knowing the rate of atmospheric electrical activityis fundamentally relevant for human life, and for infrastructures,because these events cause major damages of different nature.In the case of country airports and aerodromes, it is ofparticular importance on the operation related ramp closures ondeparting and arriving air traffic and ramp personnel operationsin adverse weather conditions. For the protection of aeronauticalusers and operators, a tool for the identification of atmosphericelectrical activity in the vicinity of airports is being developedand put in place.Aerorayos is an integrative tool for meteorologicalinformation and at the same time has algorithms for riskassessment of lightning strikes, to be evaluated by decisionmakers at airports and aeronautical meteorologists.
