Resumen:
Since 1992, the University of Magallanes been conducting Monitoring Ozone and Ultraviolet Radiation in Punta Arenas city, located in the southern of South America (Lat: -53.1 Lon: -70.1). Its proximity to the Antarctic Region involves constant monitoring of the ozone layer, due to the influence of the Antarctic Ozone Hole (AOH) on the Patagonia Region of South America and the resulting abnormal increases in UV-B radiation.Through of years, we have been able to monitor these atmospheric variables, using a spectrophotometer Brewer, model MKII, # 180, as well as ozone-sounding. Also and thanks to a joint project between Japan, Argentina and Chile, called SAVER-Net (South American Environmental Risk Network) financed by JICA-JST, Japan, through Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS), we were able to conduct joint campaigns of ozone monitoring using different measurement techniques such as ozone sounding, the DIAL system and mm-wave spectrometer, in Rio Gallegos city, Argentina, distanced 250km from Punta Arenas. The results of these monitoring and campaigns and the respective analysis will be presented, showing the evolution of the ozone layer over the region of Patagonia Chile-Argentina; the infuence of AOH and its dilution. Also, will release the activities carried out with the authorities of relevant institutions, to guard the health of the population living in this region.
