Resumen:
Due to the important volcanic activity disruption in the aerial navigation over the Argentinean region during the last years, the lidar group at CEILAP (UNIDEF-MINDEF-CONICET) created an aerosol monitoring network based on lidar systems and complementary instrumentation in the country. This project was financed by the Ministry of Defense, responsible to oversee and manage the meteorological data production needed for civil aviation. The Japanese government contributed via the Japan International Cooperation Agency with the elements needed to build the first container acting as a shelter for the lidar and the computers for external instrumentation and approving the Development of the Social Management System for Atmospheric Environmental Risks in South America. This is a Science and Technology Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) tri-national project (Japan-Chile-Argentina). This paper aims to describe the existing network and the improvements to be done in terms of spatial coverage and technological lidar advances like as the development of high spectral resolution lidars. It also focuses on the main goal of the network which consists on creating and meteorological data.
