Resumen:
Nanostructured ceria ceramics doped with yttria (CYO) or samaria (CSO) are considered as promising electrolyte materials for solid oxide fuel-cells due to their high oxygen conductivity. In previous works, the authors studied the electrical properties of CYO and CSO versus the grain size using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. A remarkable enhancement in the total ionic conductivity of one order of magnitude was found compared with the intrinsic bulk conductivity of conventional microcrystalline ceramics attributed to the predominance of grain boundary conduction. This work contributed to characterize CYO and CSO with scanning and transmission electronic microscopies enabling to evaluate their structure, variation of grain size, grain boundaries density and defects evolution by flash firing.
