Resumen:
ince optical rogue waves (RWs) were first reported by Solli et al. in 2007 [1], the study of extreme pulses in optical systems has been a very active research field. Here we consider the nonlinear dynamics of a class-B laser with loss modulation. We studied both theoretically and experimentally the mechanism at the basis of the generation of extreme events in the optical system. We obtain bifurcation diagrams of the maxima of intensity, we observed different types of bifurcations affecting the chaotic behavior, and we identify also the necessary conditions to generate optical rogue waves. Finally we study also the possibility of predicting those extreme events in this deterministic system. The theoretical results are compared to experimental data obtained from a solid state laser with electrooptically modulated losses. The comparison shows a good qualitative agreement between numerical and experimental results. ! 1] D. R. Solli, C. Ropers, P. Koonath and B.
