Solid state lasers are complex systems that sometimesdisplay unstable aperiodic output. This behavior may bedue to a deterministic low dimensional chaos. In this paper weshow the results of a MATLAB based algorithm that implementsnonlinear dynamics theory directly from a raw osciloscope traceand determines if the system is chaotic or not and characterizesits underlying attractor
