Resumen:
The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of i.m. administration of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) on ovarian follicular dynamic, ovulation and corpus luteum (CL) area in anestrous suckled beef cows. Ultrasonography examinations were performed on Day 0 (progesterone intravaginal device insert -PID), 8, 9 and posteriori every 12 h. until day 12. One last ultrasound was performed on day 21. The cows (post partum: ≥ 50 days; body condition score: 2,3±0,3 -1-5 scale) received a PID (1 g) on day 0 plus 2 mg estradiol benzoate (EB) i.m. On Day 8, the PID was removed and 150 µg D-Cloprostenol was administered. Cows were assigned to receive 400 IU of eCG (eCG Group; n=12) or not receive (Control Group; n=12). On day 9, 1 mg EB was injected. The effect of treatment on ovulation rate, follicle dominant diameter on day 8, ovulatory follicle growth rate and its diameter, and CL area were evaluated (SAS). eCG increased growth rate of ovulatory follicle and its diameter, and CL area P≤0.05). No difference were observed in the other variable (P>0.05). In conclusion, eCG produce the following changes at the ovarian level: increases the growth rate of the ovulatory follicle and its diameters, and increases the area of the CL.
