Resumen:
RESUME The aim of this work was to validate the experimental design and statistical model to study the impact of age on reproductive parameters in Silla Argentino embryo donor mares. Two variables previously validated by other researchers were studied in young and old mares: endometritis frequency and inteorvulatory intervals (IIO) length. Data was collected during two breeding seasons on an equine embryo production program. A total of 202 uterine effluents (104 from old and 98 from young mares) and 162 IIO (92 from old and 75 from young mares) were studied. Exfoliative cytology and bacterial culture were taken from uterine effluents. Statistical analysis showed differences in the percentage of positives cultures (p=0.0350) and positives cytologies. Both were higher in old mares. No statistical difference were found in length of IIO (p>0.05). On simple regression model an age effect was established for the slope of the line of old mares (P=0,02), no detected in the IIO of young mares (P=0,90). Results from this work suggest that aged Silla Argentino donor mares increased endometritris frequency and interovulatory intervals in continuous embryo production programs. Also, the experimental design and statistical model are useful to analyze the proposed variables.
