Resumen:
Intracellular transport mediated by molecularmotors is essential for most biological functions. These proteins bind to awide variety of cellular cargoes and step along cytoskeletal filaments usingenergy provided by ATP hydrolysis. Two families of molecular motors drivetransport along microtubules in a bidirectional manner: dyneins walk towardsthe minus ends located near the nucleus, whereas kinesins walk towards the plusends at the periphery of the cell. These opposite-polarity motors competewith each other to determine the direction of motion. Recent theoretical worksshowed that key aspects of the transport are finely tuned by spatialdistribution of motors on the organelle membrane. However, there are notexperimental evidences of how motors organize on organelles in living cells.
