Resumen:
Rod-shaped cells. Stains Gram-negative. Non-motile. No spore formation. Strictly anaerobic.Thermophilic. Chemoorganotrophs. Proteolytic fermenters that produce acetic acid, H2 and CO2 as the main end products. Able to reduce thiosulfate to sulfide but not to reduce sulfate. Deep branching bacterial phylogenetic lineage based on 16S rRNA genes and phylogenomic analyses(see pbm00036). Coprothermobacteraceae is the only family of the order Coprothermobacterales.The family currently accommodates a single genus, Coprothermobacter.
