Resumen:
Growth of Lactobacillus casei BL23 in high salt (0.8M NaCl) resulted in cells with increased sensitivity to enzymatic lyses and cationic antimicrobial (nisin) as well as increased capacity to form biofilms. These behaviors were associated with modifications in the content and structure of the anionic envelope polymers lipoteichoic acid (LTA). Biochemical and genetic results support that the adaptation resulted in a decrease in the polymer content, its length and the level of D-alanyl ester substitution.
