Resumen:
The San Benicio alteration zone, Precordillera of Mendoza. San Benicio is an alteration zone located to the north of Paramillos de Uspallata mining district. It is developed on Miocene volcanics rocks from Cerro Redondo Formation and include a potassic zone -with Cu, Au, Ag, Pb and Zn anomalies-, a sericitic-argilic zone and a silicification zone. The potassic alteration affects andesitic stocks and dacitic and andesitic dykes and occurs pervasive and in veinlets. Pervasive assemblages consist of a k-feldspar- biotite- quartz whereas veinlets assemblages consist of quartz and quartz - k-feldspar with biotite halos. Silicification is weak to moderate and occurs mainly pervasively and as hydrothermal breccia cement. Finally, moderate to strong sericitic -argillic zone that affects the piroclastics rocks have been recognized. Geochemical analysis carried out in subvolcanic rocks reveals an arc signature and typical features of adakite-like rocks that are comparable to the Paramillos de Uspallata mining district mineralized volcanics rocks.
