Resumen:
We present anisotropy of the magnetic susceptibility (k) and natural remanent magnetization (NRM) results from subsurface rocks in the Río Turbo area, southernmost continental Argentina. The studied material arise from three boreholes and integrate represent the intermediate and upper parts of the Río Turbio Formation, which are separated by an intervening, thick coal horizon. The results show that the coal-bearing section has the lowest values for k, NRM and degree of anisotropy. There is no discernible difference in the granulometry of the studied rocks, we then speculate that the lower values in the coal measures could be related to magnetite destruction in an overall reducing sedimentary environment.
