Resumen:
For the first time in Argentina a variety of green quartz has been discovered at an epithermal system on a Miocene magmatism framework. This mineral is hosted in a vein deposit controlled by a shear zone deformation. Multiple fracturing events took place with filling and replacement of new mineralizing pulses and with more than one breccia episodes. There is a transition from the grey quartz to the green quartz and both of them are associated to sulphides, sulphosalts, carbonates and manganese oxides. This contribution presents the mode of occurrence of green quartz and discusses its possible origins. This scenario takes place in the Agua de Dionisio mining district, Catamarca province, Argentina, belonging to the morphostructural province of Western Sierras Pampeanas.
