Resumen:
The Hualilán area is located in the Central Precordillera and is bounded by the Sierra de la Invernada to the west and the Sierra de Talacasto to the east. It comprises the Pampa de Hualilán and a small range named Sierra de la Mina. The stratigraphic column in the area includes Ordovician siliciclastic rocks (Sierra de la Invernada Formation) and limestones (San Juan Formation), Siluro–Devonian metasedimentary rocks (Tucunuco and Gualilán Groups), Miocene continental sediments (Cuculí Formation) and dacites, and Quaternary alluvial and lacustrine sediments. Tectonic fabric analysis revealed a coincidence between those WNW structural lineaments defined by Ré et al. (2001) and the presence of Tertiary subvolcanic rocks in the whole Precordillera region, suggesting a volcanic emplacement controlled by WNW structures.
