Resumen:
The Vaca Muerta Formation is a complex lithostratigraphic unit, with great lateral and horizontal facies variation, which makes it simply impractical to use a single lithologic classification. In fact, a classification is a tool to organize information, and the selection thereof depends on the objective of the study. Descriptive classifications are preferable to genetic ones, because the latter are subjective and require the understanding of complex pre and post depositional processes. Classifications that combine textural and compositional aspects allow a better rock characterization than those purely compositional.
