Resumen:
Here are presented some results of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) obtained along theSouthwest Gondwana margin from the Sierras Australes to the Agua Escondida localities. Rocks ofdifferent lithologies and ages ranging from Late Devonian to Permian-Triassic were studied. Eachlocality has its own magnetic signature. In most of them there is a gradual development in the tectonicexpression of AMS within and between localities. For rocks of Permian age there is a clear regionalmagnetic signature indicating an NW-SE elongation direction and NE-SW shortening. However, AMSpatterns obtained in the oldest rocks are complex, probably as the result of stress interference in themagnitudes, space and time with different pulses of the orogenic activity developed from the MiddleDevonian (Cháñica orogenic phase) to the Permian (San Rafael orogenic phase). Local responsesrelated with lithological control in each locality are not ruled out.
