Resumen:
Praziquantel (PZQ) is an anthelmintic that is highly effective against a broad spectrum of cestode and trematode parasites in humans and animals. Currently, PZQ is the drug of choice for the treatment of Schistosomiasis. Although widely used, PZQ possesses some characteristics that limit its use, such as poor solubility in water. Technological alternatives have been developed to improve the biopharmaceutical properties of PZQ (Mourao et al., 2005). The solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) were developed as an alternative carrier system to the existing traditional carriers, such as emulsions, liposomes and polymeric nanoparticles to improve the bioavailability of poorly water soluble drugs. They are produced using a lipid which is solid at room temperature. The major advantage of SLN is the possibility of production on large industrial scale and stability.
