Resumen:
Microbial diseases (induced by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa) constitute biggest challenges in modern medicine, causing a broad spectrum of infectious diseases of variable morbidity. The World Health Organization (WHO) data show that the number of deaths induced by infectious illnesses is still increasing. Also, one of the most serious pharmacological problems is that of resistance to microorganisms. Even though there are many drugs on the market for the treatment of infections, a large number of these drugs show poor biopharmaceutical properties that directly compromise their bioavailability at the site of action and their effectiveness. Many of these problems related to an efficient infection therapy lead to the research of innovative technologies for the development of novel drug delivery systems, which can enhance the effectiveness of treatment by increasing the availability of antibiotics. Withinthis complex setting, the development of innovative drug administration systems for the supply of antimicrobial agents represents a great advance in this field of research.Consequently, the primary approaches used to obtain novel, safe, and effective antimicrobial drugs are characterized by highly controlled therapeutic attributes. Many research, have the purpose of improving the bioavailability and pharmacokinetics and expanding the antibacterial spectrum, lead to the study and development of more efficient therapeutic systems for the antimicrobial agents currently utilized in the treatment of diverse infections.
