Resumen:
The Chacoan peccary Catagonus wagneri is therarest and most threatened of the three extant species of peccary. Its presence has been recorded in the northern DryChaco ecoregion, which spans northern Argentina, westernParaguay and south-eastern Bolivia. However, distributionmodels based on its occurrence in Argentina have predictedthat suitable habitat extends southwards into centralArgentina, where the species was not previously recorded. We present several records of the species outside the currentlyaccepted distribution, including the first two recordsin the west of Córdoba province, . km south of thesouthern limit of the previously known distribution. Thediscovery of the Chacoan peccary in central Argentinacould serve as a justification for the protection of Chacoanforests in this region, where deforestation rates are amongthe highest worldwide
