Resumen:
Background and aims : Although a positive family history for premature cardiovascular events (FH) has been considered a putative risk factor for decades, it has not been incorporated in cardiovascular risk evaluation in daily clinical practice along with other established traditional risk factors. The objective of this study was to investigate whether FH is associated with a higher atherosclerotic load, measured as total plaque area (TPA), in a population having no traditional risk factors. Methods: Using the Blossom DMO primary prevention database (Argentina) consisting of 4351patients, 34 individuals with FH were identified after applying exclusion for traditional riskfactors and previous CVE. An age, sex, blood pressure, and BMI-matched control group of 56was created. A secondary analysis was also performed to include only hypertensive patients. An experimental group of 32 participants with FH and an age, sex, blood pressure, andBMI-matched control group of 44 participants was produced.
