Resumen:
The aim of this work was to evaluate theantifungal and antifumonisin properties on Fusariumverticillioides of extracts obtained by subcritical fluids (water andethanol mixtures) from three different vegetable oil industry by products atdifferent concentrations (250, 500 and 1000 µg/mL): peanut skin (PS), sesameseed and pistachio nuts cake (SSC and PNC respectively). The antifungalproperties on growth rate in potato dextrose agar and on fumonisin B1(FB1) and ergosterol production in artificially infected maizekernels were explored. The results demonstrated that the effects of extracts on fungal growth rate and biochemical markers(fumonisin and ergosterol production) were not univocal, and could beassociated to differences in their chemical composition. The PS extract, composed mainly by monomeric and dimeric flavonoides, caused significant anddose-dependents reductions in fungal growth in vitro assays but increasedmarkedly FB1 production in vivoassays. In contrast the SSC extract did not shown a dose-dependentinhibitory effect but strongly reduced both FB1 and ergosterolproduction. Differently from PS andPNC extracts, that from SSC was composed mainly of lignin-type compounds. Thisfact implies higher lipophilicity. This latter condition may be related tomembrane-associated phenomena which lead to reductions in growth rate andmetabolite production
