Resumen:
With 670 million people and a college school enrollment that is rapidly approaching European values, Latin America is undoubtedly one of the greatest assets in terms of the World's future scientific development. This of course includes a transformational potential for our magnetic resonance community. In order to provide a state-of-the-art view of where NMR stands today in the continent, we are delighted to present to you a special issue of Journal of Magnetic Resonance Open (JMRO), entitled “Magnetic Resonance in Latin America”. As we worked on this issue we have strived to cover as many topics as possible, ranging from protein NMR to metabolomics, from NMR imaging to quantum control. We have received articles that include fundamental physical principles and articles with very practical analytical applications, and contributions whose magnetic fields range from 0 to 18.8 T. Moreover, in addition to original scientific contributions, some of the articles provide comprehensive surveys of yearlong advances along specific topics. We are truly delighted to have received such an active and diverse participation by several magnetic resonance practitioners, conducting research from the Patagonia to the Rio Bravo. We hope you will enjoy reading and learning from these articles, that will help uncover what we truly believe is a yet partially tapped but enormous potential. We also hope that this effort will continue bringing this often-overlooked but most creative NMR community, to the forefront position that it deserves.
