Resumen:
This study reports jellyfish (Cnidaria: Scyphozoa) fishery in Pakistan for the first time. Two jellyfishspecies, Catostylus perezi and Rhopilema hispidum marketed with thetrade names banana-andflower-jellies respectively, are observedcommercially exploited in the region with first one being caught and exportedin relatively much higher quantity. Former is fished in Baluchistan while, thelater in Sindh province; fishing seasons vary between February/March to July/Augustand 8-10 companies are regularly processing jellies in Pakistan except bells/umbrella,which are normally not carried out. Despite this lacking, the industry in theregion has a great potential because C.perezi is an Arabian Sea species and occursabundantly in Pakistani waters.
